Blog crush: Louise Ebel

Ah, blog crushes. They're the best. I've been a major secret admirer of French blogger/ Sorbonne art student/ general style kitten Louise Ebel AKA Miss Pandora for some time (that hair! I mean, seriously!), so you can imagine the excited, squealy free-for-all when I recently interviewed her for my day job. Perks aplenty over here! And wouldn't you know, she's actually a sweetheart. It wasn't all warm & fuzzies though: Louise did dispel a few romantic ideas (Amelie, I'm looking at you) about Parisian perfection, example:

Q: "If Paris were a song what would it be?"

A: "I don't have a song in mind, but it would be a song about an amazingly beautiful girl, which has an awful personality and is very bitchy."

Adelaide Fashion Collective 

Hey Adelaide! Yes you. So, you totally want to get yourself over to the Adelaide Fashion Collective site - it's new, it's shiny, it's all about building the Adelaide scene and bringing fashion types together. Aw. There's also some super cute street fashion  (Exhibit A, above, shows the kind of dolls they shoot (Hi Dee!)), as well as a directory of fash pros doing their thing in Rads.

The lovely Selena of Dear Selena is the creative mastermind behind the site, and I was super flattered  when she recently asked to interview me - even though I'm usually on the other side of the equation, it was kinda fun! If you like your interviews heavy on the Bruce Willis references head on over and check it out.

Ich Liebe Liebemarlene

Did I ever tell you how much I love that my job involves checking out street fashion sites on a daily basis? No? Well then, I freaking love it. Like 10. In my recent trips around the sartorial www playground (btw sartorialist isnt even a word, Scott. it's not even. a. word.) I've discovered a new girl crush: street fashion/ blogger/ vintage sweetheart Liebemarlene.

Liebemarlene sends the blog love out from Georgia, and her photos evoke the faded grandeur of low-lit golden mansions and overgrown gardens and are the perfect setting for her old-school outfit combos. It's all knee highs and Picnic at Hanging Rock boater hats, fifties skirts and thrifted satchels: school girl antebellum country geek. That's totally a style now. Everyone's gonna wanna be SGACG in 2010. Bam! Fashion prediction.

Also, in case these pics don't convince you of Liebemarlene's general awesomeness, they named a dress after her on the delightful modcloth. Exclamation point. Also, that's her on the cover of a past issue of Peppermint, to which I sometimes contribute (inserting as many references to Bill Murray as I can) and I swear I didn't even know it! Touché Pepps, for knowing what I'll like even before I do.

In scary news for my bank balance, Liebes also has a eBay store. A vintage dress straight from the Georgian thrift shops? Ummmm yes please!

Anyway, this girl practially is the internet she has so many sites. So, yes, you know how to click that little mouse right?

In other news, not at all directed to certain loved ones or family members who are wondering what to get me for post xmas presents, this dress from Opening Ceremony is dreamy.

Garance Doré, I want your life
 

I'm not doing much to prove the theory that I can love things that aren't French here, but Garance Doré is one of my all-time favourite blogs, for these (and other) reasons:

1. She's hilarious. I actually laugh out loud (if only there were some abbreviation for that, I spent way to long typing just then) at her asterisks and anecdotes

2. Her illustrations are amaaaazing. I stand by those three "a"s. Exhibit A:



3. The people she photographs are always so chic, so understated, so quirky, so pretty. It's all low key elegance and enviable bed hair

4. She includes videos like this one, behind the scenes at the shoot for the upcoming issue of Jalouse, which are pretty much the embodiment of my dream life. Except there'd be more cupcakes.

Lula, and some other adventures

Hello there, it's been a while. I know, I know - I don't call, I don't write. You were beginning to worry about me. Wow, where do I start? Perhaps, like a fairytale, it can be with once upon a time. I'm feeling in a storytelling kind of mood after watching the full blown whimsy that is the latest eyeball offering from my favourite magazine lovelies over at Lula... whom I wish to marry.

Once upon a time a girl got a freaking sweet gig writing about fashion all day*, and it was an adventure that saw her travel to distant lands** and then steal some toffee apples, the travel over stormy seas to an exotic and wonderful place**** (okay, so there weren't actual seas involved) where everyone had cool hair and the boys dressed really well and she fell in love with the streets and art and coffee and nighttimes and many other things and decided to stay.

So yes, in short, I have a new job and a new home in a new city. As I discover what this all means and explore the world around me, I'd like to share some of my Melbourne life and capers and inspirations and loves...

Karen Walker can frou frou me any time

I heart frou frou. The word, the concept, the dress (by NZ designer Karen Walker). Fancy frills that could be OTT are rendered dreamy in minimalistic all white, the hemline adds some gam action to summer and looks equally as appealing over opaques in the cold months that seem oh-so-faraway. Whimsical and versatile: it's the perfect summer treat.
